The Southport Lyric Singers is a mixed voice (SATB) choir of about 30 singers plus conductor and two accompanists. We are non-political and non-sectarian and the object is to study and practise music in order to foster public knowledge and appreciation by means of public performance and assist and support charitable institutions.
We are proud to be celebrating 60 years of presenting concerts in support of local clubs and charities.
We shall be performing our special Jubilee Concert at Christ Church, Lord Street
on Saturday 14th June. At this Concert we shall be supporting the Southport & District Branch of Parkinson’s UK
On Sunday 15th June at 6pm we shall have a special service at Lord Street West Church followed by a Buffet at the Masonic Hall.
Our repertoire is extremely varied and includes selections from many popular shows such as Les Miserables, Oliver and My Fair Lady, as well as traditional songs, folk songs and anthems.
We give 2 or 3 evening performances annually, usually in support of a local charity, and also several afternoon concerts at various clubs and homes in the area. We are always very busy at Christmas, giving an evening concert in aid of Queenscourt Hospice and several afternoon concerts. To see the programme for the coming year, click here.
We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30 (with a tea break!) in either the large or small hall at Lord Street West Reformed Church. (Near the roundabout at the South end of Lord Street).
Anyone wishing to attend a rehearsal, with a view to joining the choir, should e-mail the secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org. Although we have 5 tenors and 8 basses, we are particularly keen to strengthen this section.
